Simone,

The sFlow specification as it currently stands does not provide explicit
support for filtered capture.

The basic philosophy of sFlow is to have a lightweight agent and a smart
collector. Typically sFlow will be turned on all the time. The sFlow
collector can easily apply filters and selectively capture packets (you
could do this with ethereal, or a combination of sflowtool and tcpdump).

Subject: [traffic-management] sFlow ASIC capabilities

Hi all,

I have a question about sFlow ASICs: is it possible to make them do a
sort of pre-processing on the sampled data? That is, make them send
samples to sFlow collectors only under some specific circumstances (e.g.
traffic to/from a specific IP address, or a specific port, etc) ?
I gave a look at the specification of sFlow v5, but I couldn't find
anything about it.
In your opinion, could it make sense for a vendor that supports sFlow to
include such a feature?

Thanks in advance,
Simone.
