Eric,
We improved the XRMON discovery in version 1.0.64, so you might
want to try an upgrade. The latest version is 1.0.70.
When the boxes turn gray, it means that we have not heard from the
switch for the last 5 minutes. The XRMON protocol does not send
counters periodically in the same way as sFlow. It only includes
counters when there is a packet-sample to send. So if the traffic on
an interface is very light compared to the configured sampling rate
then you will see the boxes turn gray. For example, if the
sampling rate is 1-in-400 and a quiet interface only has 1 packet/
sec, then you will often go more than 5 minutes between samples.
So a gray box on an XRMON device is not necessarily a problem.
If TS has not heard from a switch it will test it with ICMP to make
sure it is OK. Hence the green status boxes.
Please follow up to support@inmon.com (unless of course you have
comments to share with the list).
regards,
neil
